With warmer days on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to give your dining table a little extra love. Whether you’re hosting a garden BBQ or a laid-back dinner with friends, tablescaping is a fun way to make your gatherings feel extra special.

This year’s trends are all about relaxed creativity: think playful still life centrepieces with fruit and veg, bold tonal tables that make a serious statement, and effortlessly chic, laid-back looks that feel stylish without trying too hard.

But first, what is tablescaping?

Tablescaping is the art of styling your dining table with an eye for detail, much like you would decorate a room. It goes beyond just setting out plates and cutlery - it’s about creating a theme. Think of it as tablesetting meets interior styling.

A good tablescape has layers - maybe a linen tablecloth or runner, some cute candles, fresh flowers or foliage, and a few fun touches like coloured glassware or napkin rings. It’s all about making the table feel inviting and a little bit special. And the best part? You can totally get creative with what you’ve already got at home.

Tablescape trend #1: Still Life

Drawing inspiration from classic still life paintings, this trend turns fruit, vegetables and herbs into sculptural works of art on your table. It’s such a cool way to nod to the season and we love that it’s eco-friendly.

How to recreate the Still Life trend on your table:

  • Go for a painterly palette by combining richly-coloured fruits like oranges, grapefruits and figs with earthy vegetables such as artichokes or heirloom tomatoes.
  • Pile them into footed bowls or sprawl them along the table for a more relaxed, rustic feel.
  • Don’t be afraid to go abstract. For example: A candle in a head of cauliflower can add a fun, unexpected twist to your table.
  • Want something more classic? Some lemons piled high in a vase, or a herb wreath around some pillar candles make wonderful centrepieces.
  • For a finishing touch, mix in vintage-inspired ceramics or hand-thrown pottery to give your still life that ‘plucked from a countryside villa’ look.

Tablescape trend #2: Tonal Layering

Tonal layering is big this year in the world of interiors, and it’s making its way onto our tables. The trend is all about committing to one colour family for your linens, candles, glassware and more - creating a monochromatic look that’s bold and impactful.

How to recreate the Tonal Layering trend on your table:

  • Choose your hero colour - let’s say green - and go wild. For example: A sage green tablecloth, pea-green napkins and soft olive candles.
  • Don’t stress about everything being an exact match. The beauty is in mixing slightly different shades.
  • Add interest with texture - matte ceramics, glossy plates, or linen paired with cotton napkins.
  • Bring in that spring/summer vibe with plants or flowers in similar shades.

Tablescape trend #3: Laid-back living

This trend is all about fuss-free elegance - creating a stylish yet informal vibe with low-lift styling. Think multi-use items, unfussy layering, and a mix of indoor and outdoor pieces that make entertaining feel easy and natural. With the lines between indoor and outdoor living blurring at this time of year, we’re increasingly using our home décor interchangeably. The laid-back tablescape reflects this shift, prioritising practicality without sacrificing style.

How to recreate the Laid-back Living trend on your table:

  • Bring in everyday items from other parts of your home. Use potted herbs or garden planters as centrepieces, or repurpose rechargeable lamps from your living room to create a warm, inviting glow.
  • Mix your tableware - there’s no need for everything to be matchy-matchy. Combining different patterns, textures, and shapes adds a cool, relaxed charm.
  • Keep it casual with linen napkins, simple glass tumblers, and a few scattered candles. Job done.
