What is the difference between an occasional chair and an armchair?

Occasional chairs are typically smaller in size than an armchair. An armchair is usually cushioned and provides comfort and support, whilst an occasional chair usually features upholstered cushions on a decorative frame.

How much clearance do I need for a dining chair?

You need at least 24 inches (61 cm) between each person for comfortable seating and 36 inches (91 cm) between the edge of the table and the wall or the furniture behind the dining chair for easy movement.

What makes a comfortable armchair?

Thick, comfortable cushioning is ideal for an armchair—firm enough to provide support without sinking when you sit. Consider the height of the arm rests and back for overall support, look for a back height of 30–40 inches (76–102 cm) from the floor and armrests that are 7–9 inches (18–23 cm) above the seat.
