100% Recycled Velvet Sofas

The recycled velvet fabric we use on our sofas is made from yarn repurposed plastic bottles found in our oceans and landfill sites. For every one metre of fabric there are thirty 550ml bottles. In short, a Model 04 in Eco Velvet repurposes almost 300 plastic bottles.

The fabric is also GRS certified, which means the emissions during production are significantly reduced. Our recycled velvet fabric is perfect for those looking for a sustainable sofa that has a lower-than-normal environmental impact.

What is recycled velvet?

Recycled velvet is polyester made from yarns extruded from post-consumer PET bottles. It’s repurposed from thousands of plastic bottles that were bound for oceans and landfill. The fabric is GRS certified, which means emissions during production are greatly reduced.

Is recycled velvet good for sofas?

Recycled velvet is a great option for sofas, not only is the fabric OEKO-TEX 100 certified - so it’s tested to national and international requirements to ensure all fabric components are fully free from any harmful substances. But, it has a Martindale tested up to 60,000 rubs – an extremely high performing fabric.

Recycled velvet is breathable and super soft. Its breathability means it has an easy-clean finish, which comes from a silicone fabric softener applied to the fabric pile, creating repellence properties.

Will recycled velvet couches last as long?

Yes, as mentioned above, the recycled velvet fabric has a Martindale rub count of 60,000+, which is a high performing fabric and matches our other fabrics.

What other fabrics does Swyft have that are eco-friendly?

Not only is our eco-velvet sustainable, but so is our wool and cotton fabrics. Both are also 100% recyclable and made from materials heading to landfill. We’re proud to be able to offer a collection of fabrics that have sustainability at their core.

Does recycled velvet feel as good as normal velvet?

Yes it does. Just like normal velvet, the eco-velvet is extremely soft to touch. The fabric is also coated in fabric softener, which helps the fabric’s overall feel.
