6 Nooks to Create in Your Home

Nooks are little spaces in your home that serve a particular purpose. They reflect your habits, your hobbies and your interests. They say “this is what’s important to me” - whether that’s reading, catching up with friends or getting a good night’s sleep.

Here are 6 nook ideas to add pockets of personality to your home (and curated pieces from the Swyft collection to recreate them).

A Reading Nook

Picture this: It’s a cold, rainy day. You grab a book that has been on your list for ages, snuggle into a plush, comfy armchair, pop your feet up on a footstool and explore another world with every turn of the page.

After a while, you start to feel hungry, but can’t put your book down. No worries. Reach over to the snack bowl on your side table, and dive into those chocolate-covered pretzels you poured out earlier.

A Coffee Nook

We’re loving the “home cafe” trend right now, where you invite all your friends over to yours on a Saturday morning for coffee and pastries.

Traditionally, coffee machines live on the kitchen counter, but what if you created a dedicated coffee nook in your dining room or living area? Put your coffee machine on a sideboard and fill the cupboards with cups, filters and your favourite coffee beans. With an armchair in a sunlit patch nearby, you’ll have a comfortable nook for slow, gentle mornings.

A Window Nook

If you’re lucky to have a beautiful, scenic view from your home, this one’s for you. Create a comfortable space where you can simply sit back and enjoy nature.

Place a chaise, or a loveseat in front of the window at an angle, but facing outwards. Then pair with a rug, and some coordinating cushions to make it feel like a “zone” (and not just a chair facing away from the centre of the room). Here, the window is like a living, breathing piece of art.

A Conversation Nook

It’s human nature to crave connection. And some of the best-designed homes are those that create spaces that nurture our relationships. Like a breakfast counter in the kitchen, or in this case, two armchairs in a cosy corner of your home, where two friends can sit together and put the world to rights.

A Hallway Nook

Weekday mornings are easier with a hallway nook. Add a chair, where you put on your shoes (without hopping around on one leg) and a sideboard or console table, where you can keep the car keys plus a mirror for checking you don’t have any spinach in your teeth before heading out the door.

A Sleeping Nook

“A good sleep environment that is very dark, quiet, cool, and comfortable can improve sleep” advises the CDC.

If you have an alcove in your bedroom, you can use this space to create a sleeping nook that’s free from screens and distractions that’ll hold you back from getting a good night’s rest. Just put an ultra-comfortable bed and a bedside table behind a heavy blackout curtain to create the ultimate sanctuary.

Nooks are the perfect balance between comfort and personality. They’re an opportunity to break the rules of what a room “should” be. And a cool way to turn those awkward corners or spaces in your home into something truly special.
